Saving Lives and Saving Money - the business case for road safety.

> Jim Fitzpatrick, Transport Minister
> Jon York, fleet operations manager, British Gas

Driving on business, for most employees, is the most dangerous task they undertake during their working life. However, evidence suggests that the vast majority of companies do not have occupational road risk management in place. With the Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act due to be implemented in April 2008, the noose around the necks of companies that fail to take at-work driver safety continues to tighten. The financial, legal and moral case for managing occupational road risk will be explained.

Technology and tomorrow’s company cars today

> Bob Bell, technical director, ING Renault Formula 1 Team

Manufacturers say that tomorrow’s company cars will be capable of driving themselves. Is that really true? Much of the technology that is finding its way into fleet vehicles started life in the engineering workshops operated by Formula 1 teams - technically the most sophisticated cars on the planet. How F1 technology is influencing tomorrow’s road-going cars will be discussed.

The future of fleet is ‘green’ - cutting costs and saving the planet

> Nigel Underdown, head of transport, Energy Saving Trust
> Peter Neal, procurement consultant, Davis Langdon

Climate change has been called ‘the world’s greatest environmental challenge’. However, despite the environmental choice being the commercial choice from both a corporate and individual perspective, evidence suggests that most companies talk about going ‘green’, but in reality action is limited. Yet, by putting vehicle selection, driver education and journey planning at the heart of their transport operations, companies will not compromise business effectiveness and efficiency, but will contribute to saving the planet and can expect to slash fleet costs by around 20%.

Investigating a fatality - the business case for road safety

> Insp Tony Browne, manager, Hampshire Police Road Death Investigation Team

> Nigel Wilkinson, head of health, safety and the environment, T-Mobile

A serious road crash involving an employee will result in police officers knocking on your company’s door wanting details of vehicle condition and suitability, an assessment of the person’s competency to drive and journey details. Can you produce that information? With the Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act due to be implemented in April 2008, it will be increasingly essential for businesses to have up-to-date data on vehicles, drivers and journeys. The case for managing occupational road risk will be explained.
